Jeffrey Yu is Chair of The New Vista Society and brings more than 15 years of experience in seniors’ care, housing, healthcare, community service, and organizational leadership.

Jeffrey has held a number of leadership and governance roles across the community. He currently serves as Chair of the Vancouver Community College Board of Governors and previously served as Chair of the Burnaby Public Library Board. He has also contributed to post-secondary education as a program advisor at Langara College for more than two decades.

His involvement with New Vista reflects a longstanding commitment to improving the quality of life of older adults and supporting strong, inclusive communities. As Chair, Jeffrey is focused on sound governance, long-term sustainability, responsible growth, and ensuring New Vista continues to respond to the evolving needs of seniors, residents, families, and the wider community.

Jeffrey believes strong community organizations are built through collaboration, thoughtful leadership, and a shared commitment to dignity, service, and care.

Barbara Larkin

Barbara Larkin is a counsellor in private practice in New Westminster with a focus on the treatment of anxiety. Barbara brings a breadth and depth of board experience.  She is a past Vice Chair of the City of Burnaby Parks, Recreation and Cultural Commission, past Vice Chair of City of Burnaby Library Board, past Vice Chair of the College of Opticians of B.C., past member of City of Burnaby Social Issues Committee and past Secretary Treasurer of the Royal Canadian Legion #83.

As an adult student, Barbara received a Master of Social Work while raising two children and working full-time. Her MSW thesis was on the topic of “End of Life Care in Long Term Care.” She previously worked for Fraser Health Authority as a social worker and mental health therapist.

As a member of the Board of Directors, Barbara is pleased to bring to The New Vista Society knowledge and experience in the community, healthcare, small business ownership, and board governance.

Sonny Dhillon

Sonny Dhillon, CPA, CA is the founding partner and business advisor at Intel CPA.  Sonny received his Bachelor’s in Accounting from BCIT in 2007 and became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia in 2010.  He was employed as a manager at one of Canada’s leading national accounting firms before joining Intel CPA.  With an extensive background spanning over two decades in public accounting, Sonny possesses a deep understanding of the complex financial regulations and tax laws across diverse industries.  He has a genuine ability to connect with business owners and key decision makers to help them navigate complex tax and regulatory compliance issues that impact their organization.   Sonny has a passion for community involvement and engagement. He has served on the boards of various not-for-profit organizations.

Alisa Bailey

Alisa is the owner and president of Waystone Consulting Ltd. a project leadership consulting firm focused on the design and construction industry. Alisa has 25 years experience in the construction industry, within both the public and private sector, and has led projects and teams in a variety of industry sectors, including social housing. Alisa has also held senior leadership roles at a full-service design and construction firm and at BC Housing.

Alisa has extensive experience in leading teams at both a project and organizational level and is passionate about creating collaborative environments where every member of the team can leverage their strengths to fully support the team. Alisa is excited to bring her skills in design, construction and leadership to support New Vista's growth and reach within senior's care and affordable housing.

Michael Beaulieu

Michael Beaulieu is an accomplished construction and electrical professional with more than three decades of leadership, project management, and hands-on industry experience. Since 2009, he has served as President of Affinity Homes and Designs Inc., overseeing the construction of approximately 100 new single-family homes for custom buyers and the speculative market.

His work involves coordinating with homeowners, designers, subcontractors, engineers, municipal officials, and inspectors to guide projects from vacant-land development through construction and completion. He has also managed land rezoning and subdivision projects in collaboration with civil contractors, consultants, and municipal planning and engineering departments.

Before entering residential development, Michael led M.B. Electrical Systems Inc. and M.B. Electric, preparing quotations, securing permits and licenses, and delivering electrical installations for commercial stores, restaurants, warehouses, and homes. Earlier, as a Project Supervisor and Electrician, he supervised personnel and coordinated installations with general contractors. He is a Red Seal-certified electrician who completed his apprenticeship training at BCIT.

He is recognized for practical problem-solving, clear communication, strong client relationships, and careful attention to detail. His community involvement includes seven years of coaching children's soccer and serves as a Board Director of the New Vista Society.

Antara Deb

Antara Deb, originally from India, moved to Canada in 2008 after being born and raised amidst India's rich cultural tapestry.

With a degree in Architecture from India, Antara has excelled as an IT Advisor at BC Hydro for over fifteen years. Beyond her professional achievements, she has become a force for good through her volunteer work with numerous charitable non-profit organizations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Antara's dedication only deepened. As Vice-President of the Stand with Asians Coalition, she actively promotes anti-racism and fights against racial discrimination, addressing the surge in global and local racism and hate crimes.

Antara's community involvement extends to serving as Vice Chair of the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), a United Way Community Champion, and a member of the Touching Lives Foundation Advisory Committee. Her commitment to diversity and inclusion, rooted in her South Asian Canadian heritage, serves as a bridge to foster understanding among cultures.

Currently serving as a Board of Director of the New Vista Society, she brings her diverse perspectives to building an inclusive community and enhancing healthcare options for seniors.

Michael Hwang

Michael Hwang is a lawyer with more than 30 years’ experience advising diverse not-for-profit organizations. He has also served on the boards of many local and international organizations dedicated to community development, including Burnaby Multicultural Society, Burnaby Chamber of Commerce, Presbyterian World Service & Development, and Sharons Credit Union. Michael’s advocacy for culturally sensitive senior care began in 2001, when he organized the first Korean Heritage Festival in Burnaby, bringing the community together to raise awareness and support for seniors with special needs. He is excited to join the New Vista Society’s Board, which has embraced culturally sensitive care for the Korean community in our new care home. Michael continues to practice law on a part-time basis, while operating a heritage theatre to promote reconciliation and social justice through performing arts.

Cindy Lee

Cindy Lee, J.D., TEP, is a lawyer practising in Burnaby, with a practice focused on tax, estate planning, trusts, and corporate matters. Cindy has extensive experience working with individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations and brings a strong understanding of the legal, governance, and community issues affecting people at different stages of life.

Prior to practising law, Cindy spent years working in the immigrant and settlement services sector. She currently serves in a number of community and governance roles, including on the Board of Governors of Langara College and with organizations supporting families, local businesses, and community development in Burnaby.

Cindy is passionate about building inclusive and connected communities and ensuring that seniors and families have access to the resources and support they need. She is excited to bring her legal, governance, and community experience to New Vista and to support its continued work in seniors’ care, affordable housing, and community services.

Jimmy Sandhu

Jimmy Sandhu is a seasoned banking and business development professional with more than 20 years of experience supporting entrepreneurs, businesses, and communities throughout British Columbia. He works with mid-market organizations to facilitate growth, expansion, succession planning, acquisitions, and strategic financing solutions. Jimmy holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The Robert Gordon University and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Information Technology Management from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

As a member of New Vista's Board of Directors, Jimmy is passionate about contributing to the organization's mission of providing inclusive, compassionate, and high-quality housing and care services that enable individuals and families to thrive. He is committed to supporting strong governance, strategic growth, and community-focused initiatives that enhance the well-being of those New Vista serves.

James Wang

James Wang has a long career serving in public sector. He strongly believes in the importance of the public school system and served two terms as Burnaby school trustee. James has a passion for community involvement and volunteering. He was first elected to the Burnaby City Council in 2014 and has continued working to make a strong, vibrant city by improving quality of life and protecting affordability. James continues to help create a strong sense of community. One of the biggest issues for our community is affordable housing. In his position as a Director, James is guiding New Vista on finding collaborative and innovative solutions so people of all ages can find a home that fits their needs.
