Respiratory illness precautions & Viral Gastrointestinal illness outbreak precautions.
A New policy directive has come out from the Ministry of Health regarding masking for staff and visitors during the respiratory illness season (often ending April 1).
- Staff must mask in all areas that residents can access.
- New Vista recommend that Visitors wear mask in common areas with other residents present but can be off mask when visiting their family or friend in their own room.
- As always, please do not visit with any symptoms of respiratory disease including cough, runny nose, sore throat, fever, aches and pains.
Gastrointestinal Illness (GI) is a viral stomach flu defined with 2 or more episodes of diarrhea within 24 hours or 2 or more episodes of vomiting within a 24-hour period or one episode of vomiting AND 1 episode of diarrhea within a 24 hour period.
- We are in OUTBREAK on 4 floor west side, with currently 3 Residents on Isolation.
- Symptomatic residents will be kept isolated until 48 hours after last episode.
- We are working close with Fraser Health and follow their Infection control directions.
- Families of the isolated residents are informed.
- We will follow up with families for any new cases.
- Do not visit with any symptoms of GI.
Thank you in advance for following Ministry Policy and understanding the importance of infection control.
We will keep you updated.
