Family, community leaders and guests gathered to celebrate New Vista’s newest affordable housing community and unveil the Margaret Koster Legacy Wall

New Vista Society welcomed family, community leaders and guests to Margaret Koster Residence earlier this month for an official opening celebration and the unveiling of the building’s Legacy Wall.

The event brought together Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley, MLA Paul Choi, MLA Anne Kang, New Vista Board President Jeffrey Yu, and members of the New Vista community. Margaret Koster’s daughters, Margaret Hangartner and Judy Ostling, also took part in the celebration and shared in the recognition of their mother’s legacy.

Following remarks from the speakers, guests gathered inside the building for the unveiling of the Legacy Wall, providing a lasting tribute to Margaret Koster and the legacy behind the residence that carries her name.

The six-storey Margaret Koster Residence, located at 6652 Sussex Avenue in Burnaby, provides 53 one- and two-bedroom affordable homes for seniors and families. With residents now moving into their new homes, the celebration marked an important milestone for New Vista and its continued work to expand affordable housing in the community.

“It was very special to welcome Margaret’s family and so many members of our community to celebrate this building and the legacy behind it,” said Darin Froese, CEO of New Vista Society. “Margaret Koster Residence will provide affordable homes for people in Burnaby for many years to come, and we’re proud to have her name and legacy permanently connected to this community.”
