New Vista Expands Beyond the Lower Mainland with New Housing Project in Penticton
Expanding our commitment to housing affordability with a new project in the South Okanagan
New Vista Society is expanding its reach beyond the Lower Mainland with a new 60-unit affordable housing project in Penticton. Located in the city’s North Gateway area, the development will provide much-needed rental housing for working professionals and families through the BC Builds program.
“This project is a great example of what’s possible when local governments and non-profits come together with a shared purpose,” says Darin Froese, CEO of New Vista Society. “We’re proud to be working with the City of Penticton to help meet the housing needs of the nurses, teachers, electricians and other professionals who keep communities strong.”
New Vista was selected through a competitive process to develop and operate the project, which will include 20–30 per cent of units priced at 20 per cent below market rates. The City is contributing municipally owned land under a 99-year lease and will work with New Vista to finalize the lease and secure funding and financing through BC Builds, with construction expected to begin in 2026.
As a non-profit organization, New Vista is committed to maintaining long-term affordability. Rents will remain below market over time, and all tenants will be income-tested to ensure alignment with BC Builds’ focus on middle-income earners.
With more than 80 years of experience delivering affordable housing in British Columbia, New Vista is proud to bring its mission to the South Okanagan and support a stronger, more inclusive future for Penticton.
