Summer at New Vista: A Season to Remember

Celebrating community, culture, and care all summer long

The summer months were full of energy and community spirit at New Vista. From celebrations and cultural events to meaningful acts of generosity, it’s been a season we’ll never forget.

Shop for a Cause

In June, the Rose of Sharon Care Society hosted Shop for a Cause, a community yard sale raising funds for the New Vista Care Home. Shoppers browsed household goods, clothing, electronics, and homemade treats—including delicious Korean dishes. Every purchase helped support our residents.

We also celebrated the retirement of three Resident Care Aides—Carlosa L., Mariam V., and Carol C.—who together gave nearly 50 years of care and compassion. At a heartfelt tea, staff, residents, and families gathered to share stories and gratitude.

We also got to thank the Burnaby Quilters for donating 25 handmade lap quilts. Their gift brings warmth, colour, and comfort to our residents.

A Medal of Honour

In July, our care home was filled with red and white pride on Canada Day! Residents and staff enjoyed festive decorations, music, and plenty of laughter.

We also celebrated New Vista care home resident Mr. Young-Kil Park, who received a Ministerial Medal from the Korean Government in recognition of his Korean War service.

Representatives from the Korean Consulate joined us for a ceremony in the lobby of our Burnaby facility.

Multicultural Day

New Vista’s courtyard came alive with music, dance, and colourful traditional clothing during Multicultural Day. From fan dances to heartfelt singing, the event celebrated the rich diversity that defines our community.

A Welcoming New Lobby

In August, thanks to a generous $23,000 donation from the Vista V’s, our main lobby was refreshed with new furniture and décor. The updated space now offers greater comfort and warmth for residents and visitors alike.

Looking Ahead

As we turn the page to fall, we’re grateful for the connections, joy, and care that defined this summer. Thank you to our staff, volunteers, families, and community partners for making New Vista such a vibrant place to live and work.
