Maple Ridge, British Columbia - New Vista Society is partnering with BC Housing to bring some much-needed affordable rental housing for seniors in Maple Ridge.

Construction is expected to start next year on a 98-unit project at 22534, 22548, and 22556 Royal Crescent, with 20% of units priced at shelter and pension rates, 50% at below BC Housing’s housing income limits metric, and 30% at the low end of the market. The province announced last week that funding would come from the Building BC: Community Housing Fund.

“We’re very excited to finish our construction drawings and start to build!” said Darin Froese, the CEO of New Vista Society. “This project underscores our unwavering commitment to addressing the critical need for housing security among seniors."

New Vista was selected as the housing provider last year and will enter into a 60-year long-term ground lease and operating agreement with BC Housing.

Modular buildings have already been used as supportive housing on the site for the past several years. Current residents will be moved to a permanent facility at Fraser and 224th Street to accommodate construction.

The City of Maple Ridge has committed to fast-tracking the development application process.  Neighbourhood consultation took place in September 2023, with second reading passing in October 2023 before a public hearing in November 2023.

Vesta Community Planning is the development consultant and Jacob Bros will manage construction, which is expected to be completed in 2027.
