Our Partner in Community
As the Korean War Veterans continue to age, some have found solace in being able to move into our Care Home on the second floor. This floor is geared to support the Canadian Korean community with Korean speaking Nurses, Care Aides and support workers. A Korean Cook provides familiar Korean food for lunches and dinners and Korean festivals are celebrated with the help of our Creative Therapies Staff.

In 2016, New Vista entered into a partnership with the Korean War Veterans Association of Western Canada. They were struggling to find a suitable meeting space for their association and were often just having coffee at McDonalds. As New Vista houses and cares for a large population of residents and tenants from the Korean community, it made sense for us to partner in finding a solution.
Working with advocate, Michael Chang, a clubhouse space was donated in the New Vista Tower. The occasion was marked with a “Key Handover Ceremony” organized by Jan Shin’s Office and attended by MLA Raj Chouhan, MLA Selina Robinson, City Councilor, Paul McDonell and the then Board Chair, Brenda Felker and Vice President, Jeffrey Yu.
They have been meeting at their clubhouse located in the New Vista apartment tower and have enjoyed many celebrations over the years. The average age of their membership is 85 years and this opportunity just deepens our relationship with the Korean Community.
